The Senate of the United States shall be composed of two Senators from each State, elected by the people thereof, for six years; and each Senator shall have one vote. The electors in each State shall have the qualifications requisite for electors of the most numerous branch of the State Legislatures.
When vacancies happen in the representation of any State in the Senate, the executive authority of such State shall issue writs of election to fill such vacancies: Provided, that the legislature of any State may empower the executive thereof to make temporary appointment until the people fill the vacancies by election as the legislature may direct.
This amendment shall not be so construed as to affect the election or term of any Senator chosen before it becomes valid as part of the Constitution.
My Opinion: This Amendment is very straight and to the point. I think it is important that we have a system like this to keep things in order. By having these rules and regulations so to speak, it keeps the senators in line and gives them something to follow by.
Judge Nepolitano: Repeal the "Progressive" 17th Amendment
My Opinion: It is sad to think that people don't think that they are correctly represented in the government. We are "One Nation" and need to start acting like it. We as members of a state, elect people to represent everyone who is a part of that state, and for these people to be so far disconnected from the real issues is what the problem is. I don't know if repealing the 17th Amendment would be the correct way but something needs to be done.
States Must Force 17th Amendment Showdown
My Opinion: This idea being so important when it was first created shows how much it was needed in the beginning. People just wanted to be represented and at first they were, now people are being walked all over. I like this video because she makes people aware of what was then and what is now and how it will be. And once again it states that this Amendment was not ratified properly, so what now?
